Roadhouse Simulator Guide

Performance, settings and controllers

Roadhouse Simulator is not a heavy game on paper, but the noisiest player reports after the Demo and Prologue were about framerate — specifically outside the building. Here is what the store lists, what players hit, and what to try.

64-bit processor and OS required. The game is listed for Windows on Steam (a GOG listing for the same title also mentions macOS — if you are on a Mac, confirm on the store page before buying, because the Steam listing is Windows-only).

What players reported

  • Outside areas run worse than inside. Player Nebthtet reported lag on a 5070 Ti at 5040×1440 on max details, and noted the FPS "skyrockets when you go inside, but any outside area is a lagfest" — adding that the build offered no dynamic resolution or frame generation options at the time. A Prologue thread ("Very laggy outsid") describes the same pattern.
  • Cop inspection frequency was flagged as too high by player super (see Gangs & the Sheriff).
  • Dual-screen setups. Player A cool Guy reported the game refusing to display properly across two monitors ("out of spec", unable to move the window).
  • Won't start. Player Raven Misery October reported error codes on launch with nothing happening after pressing Play.

These are player reports from the Prologue/Demo era and may well be patched. If you hit them in the release build, use the in-game F7 bug report (the builds show "PRESS [F7] TO REPORT BUG") rather than a forum post — that is the channel DRAGO's hotfix notes reference.

Settings to try first if you are lagging outside

  1. Drop shadows and foliage/vegetation quality. The outside areas are where the density is; these are the usual culprits.
  2. Lower the resolution scale / play at 1440p instead of 4K. The reporter above was at 5040×1440 — that is a lot of pixels for a sim.
  3. Cap the framerate. An uncapped frame budget makes the outside stutter worse.
  4. Windowed or borderless for multi-monitor setups, then move the window manually with Shift+F1 if the mouse is captured — the HUD itself advertises that shortcut.

Controllers: read this before you buy for a gamepad

  • In August, DRAGO pinned a thread titled "GAMEPAD & <UNBOUND> BUG" explaining that the Demo did not support gamepads: some movement responded, which made it look supported, but the actual tools (hammer, mop, plunger, serving drinks) were unbound.
  • The Steam store page's own launch categories were Single-player, Steam Cloud, Family Sharing — no controller support tag — while third-party game databases and the GOG listing have described full controller support. Those two things do not agree.
  • What that means for you: verify in the release build rather than trusting either listing. If a tool shows as <unbound>, you are seeing the reported bug, not a missing keybind on your end. Players Lysander Valerius and Crystal both asked for controller support, one of them for accessibility reasons.
